We're calling for nominations now, and we will salute these visionaries at the 2009 Commonwealth Awards on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, Harrisburg, PA. Please send nominations by April 3, 2009. About the Commonwealth Awards The 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania Commonwealth Awards is a juried state-wide program to recognize businesses, nonprofits, elected officials, and citizens contributing to the economic and environmental health of the Commonwealth. The awards pay tribute to visionaries - developers, builders, designers, community leaders, local officials, financiers and others - who have invested in building a better future for Pennsylvania. These leaders put smart growth to work by envisioning, promoting, designing and building communities that improve life for residents, employers, employees, and visitors. New Opportunities For Recognition This year, we are expanding the scope of the Awards to include not only smart growth projects in Pennsylvania, but also the Pennsylvanians who are leading the way on smart growth. For Projects Submissions are invited from companies, and organizations who have contributed to a wide range of project types - urban infill, historic preservation and rehabilitation, adaptive reuse, brownfield redevelopment, revitalization plans, traditional neighborhood development, and farmland preservation. The entries will be judged by a panel of distinguished jurors. The full list of jurors will be announced shortly. For Individuals Nominations are invited to acknowledge the superlative efforts of Pennsylvanians who contribute to smart growth. Nominations are accepted in two categories: Contribution by a Citizen, and Contribution by a Public Official. Recipients will be cited for their direct contributions to smart growth and for their positive and valuable influence on their community, constituents, and peers. How to Enter The deadline for entries is Friday, April 3, 2009. The entry fee is $125 for projects. There is no entry fee to nominate individuals for awards. For full details about eligibility criteria, entry forms and submission instructions, please visit www.commonwealthawards.org.
